Police have summoned Hajji Abdul Kibedi, the owner of the recently burnt New Crest Junior at Kibedi Day and Boarding Primary School in Kawempe Division, Kampala City.

This follows the death of at least five pupils aged between six and seven and scores injured in two separate school dormitory fires over the weekend.

The victims were identified as Tena Denge, 6years South Sudan national, Bushira Nabawesi,6, Julian Nakalanzi, 6, all in primary one and seven year old Hasina Nakawuki, a primary two pupil.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson has told the journalists at Naguru that they have also temporally closed the school and summoned the Kawempe Division School Inspector to discover whether the institution had been inspected before.

Enanga further says that the school and no fire alarms and the dormitories were congested with the girls section having only two exit routes yet the boys’ side having one which is risky.

He explains that three people including the Head Teacher of the school Abu Serutwa and the teacher on duty on that day Ahmed Ssengooba together with the warded Hamid Kabibi are under custody to help in the investigations conducted by the team of experts from the Fire and Rescue Services as well as Forensics and officials from the Ministry of Education.
