Persons living with Disabilities in Kawempe Division under their umbrella body; the Disability Employment Link Project Uganda- DELPU are concerned that their idea to empower PWDs through skilling is likely to die due to lack of funds.
PWDs including those with hearing impairment, visual challenges and physical disabilities, amongst others started a skilling project intended to empower themselves say that the project which had started improving the lives of many of their colleagues is challenged by little funding yet the requirements are expensive.
The project located in Bwaise in Kawempe Division trains PWDs in tailoring, hairdressing, mechanic skills and Information Technology.
Steven Kamya, one of the leaders of the project spoke to our reporter shortly after MTN Uganda handed over embroidery machines and upgraded the traditional sawing machines to electrical, computers among others items and thanked them for the gesture which he says will greatly improve their project and the lives of their members.
