The State Minister for Kampala Kabuye Kyofatogabye has warned to arrest beneficiaries who will misuse Parish Development Model –PDM funds.

The PDM is the latest multi-sectoral strategy where government plans to use parishes as the epicenter for development by channeling funds to the communities to transform the 39 per cent households out of the subsistence economy into the money economy.

The government disbursed PDM funds for 10,594 parishes across the country, with each parish getting Shillings 17 million in the last financial year in the first phase of the program. The parishes are now receiving Shillings 100 million in this financial year 2022/2023.

Now, during the PDM sensitization tour at Makindye Division headquarters in Kampala, Minister Kyofatogabye said that any beneficiary that will divert the money into unproductive activities will be arrested.

He further emphasized that PDM funds are intended to fight poverty by improving the income levels of local Ugandans by boosting small businesses.

Ali Nganda Mulyanyama, the Makidye Division Mayor committed himself to monitor the program in every parish to ensure that it benefits the intended members of the community. Makindye division has 20 SACCO and 20 parishes.

Before, the meeting was disrupted by the National Unity Platform -NUP Councilors led by Mayor Mulyanyama accusing their counterparts of the National Resistance Movement –NRM for seating in slummy ways of cross-legging which they claimed to be an act of insubordination.

It was until the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Makindye Division Doreen Keita together with the police intervened and cooled NUP Councilors and later made the NRM Councilors to apologize before the meeting resumed.
