Parliament has rejected the proposal to include Monday as Parliamentary Plenary sitting day, to move from three days a week to four days.

The Parliamentary Rules Committee chaired by Kalaki County Member of Parliament (MP) Ongalo Obote had proposed to amend Rule 19 of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament so that parliament adds Monday as another day for its sitting to cater for the increase in the number of MPs in the 11th parliament which has 529 members.

The First Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Moses Ali opposed the proposal to adopt Monday as another sitting day for parliament since cabinet sits on the same day and rather proposed Friday.

However, MPs who included Budadiri West MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Kumi Municipality’s Silas Aogon, Kilak County South MP Gilbert Olanya said that the status quo should remain parliament to sit from Tuesday to Thursday because they need time to be in their constituencies.
