The parliamentary Public Accounts committee-PAC has handed over accountability reports from the Judicial Service Commission to the parliamentary CID for more scrutiny and investigations.

This arose after the committee chaired by Nandala Mafabi was interacting with the commission officials and they failed to account for public funds amounting to over 165m shillings during the financial year 2018/19 according to the auditor general report.

According to the report JSC requested for the sum above to carry out activities including judicial Balaza’s and radio public awareness messages in form of jiggles but unfortunately the activities conducted couldn’t match the sum of moneys released and spent.

It’s from this anomaly that the chair forwarded the JSC accountability report to parliamentary CID for further investigations and also allowing commission’s officials to revise the report before Thursday and submit a coordinating report.

The committee further discovered that Judiciary had a total of 398m shillings still as unaccounted funds however the under secretary Judiciary Moreen Kasante informed the committee that the money referred to arouse due to delayed sub-motion of accountabilities by courts of Moyo, Makindye, Lugazi and Lira although the committee objected to the answer because the actions contradict with the law of accounting for public money that has to be done within 60 days of expenditure.
