The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has called for more financial support to the Uganda Aid Commission to fight the scourge.

Uganda has on Thursday joined the rest of the world to commemorate the World Aids Day and at the national level the celebrations have been held in Rukungiri under the theme, “Ending inequalities among adolescent girls, young women and boys.”

In her communication to parliament on Thursday, Speaker Among said that it’s unfortunate to learn that 80% of the Uganda Aids Commission budget is funded by donors which puts the country at risk in case the donors pull out.

She also requested the government to find a mechanism of providing free ARVs from all health care services, after learning that Aids patients are highly charged when they go for medication from private facilities.

Parliament allocates Ushs21bn but Uganda Aids Commission receives only 15bn which has crippled the operations of the Commission.
