The situation around the old taxi park is tense following the Police deployment along with the KCCA law enforcement unit to enforce the relocation of taxis plying to Entebbe road to park in Usafi taxi park.

The Entebbe stage in the Old Park is now occupied by taxis plying Mukono-Seeta route and taxis to Entebbe road are packing along Ben Kiwanuka street.

Apparently no Taxi is allowed to get out through Ben Kiwanuka to Shoprite police have blocked the road even to the boda bodas and are more than ready to arrest any driver trying to test them.

Last evening the Minister for Kampala Beti Kamya said that taxi operators had been given one last chance to vacate the park while those operating at stages along Kampala streets to move into designated taxi parks.

Kamya said this was not a KCCA directive but a Cabinet decision to re-organise the operation of taxis in the city and renovate the park adding that those who will try to resist relocation will be forced out by the KCCA enforcement team.

However taxi drivers claim that they are not aware of any directive but above all the plan, they say is selective intended to push them out of business.

It is said taxi drivers to Entebbe road reportedly spent a night in the Old TaxiPark, guarding their stage.

However, eye witnesses said on Tuesday that police deployed at the park beat them before they drove their cars out.

Taxis are exiting the park through Burton Street near Mega Standard Supermarket.
