Two Journalists who went missing since last evening reportedly under the hands of the Police, Herbert Zziwa and his camera man Ronald Muwanga both of Nation Media in Uganda have been charged with inciting violence and malicious damage to properties before releasing them on bond.

The two journalists say they were arrested by operatives in plain clothes in Arua Municipality last evening while covering a murder scene where Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi’s driver was shot dead.

The duo was arrested along with 32 other opposition politicians shortly after chaos had erupted in Arua Municipality when supporters of Kassiano Wadri reportedly clashed with supporters of Nusura Tiperu, the NRM candidate.

They were briefly detained at Arua Central Police station before being driven to Gulu Central Police station today morning from where they have been released.

Human Rights Network for Journalists in Uganda (HRN-U) had called for unconditional release of the journalists or they lead a demonstration to storm police cells in Gulu and Arua to rescue them.

Addressing the media in Kampala on Tuesday, the HRNJ-U Executive Director Robert Sempala said that it has become a habit for security forces to brutalize journalists especially in a competitive election which he advocates to stop.
