The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Managing Director Richard Byarugaba has admitted that his predecessor David Chandi Jamwa failed to do due diligence before purchasing the 366acers of land from a Kampala Businessman Amos Nzeyi in Temangalo.

This comes after a group of Ugandans of Indian origin under the company of Temangalo Tea Estate Ltd testified before the Land Probe yesterday that their land in Temangalo Mpigi district was fraudulently acquired by Nzeyi in 1997 while on their way to exile, and later sold it to NSSF in 1998 at 11.2billion shillings.

Appearing before the Justice Catherin Bamugemereire’s Land Commission of Inquiry today, Byarugaba said that according to the documents, NSSF through its lawyers carried a due diligence to only two land owners, Nzeyi and Abasi Mawanda but didn’t go much into the its history.

He further said that they managed to acquire titles of over 435 acres of land bought and have already built 13,000 houses as returns for workers.

Meanwhile, the Commission has issued fresh summons against Amos Nzeyi to appear before the commissioners on the same matter on failing to appear today.
