The Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Judith Nabakooba has directed the District Security Committees -DSCs to implement the presidential directive banning all land evictions in the country.

This week, President Yoweri Museveni wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja banning all land evictions in the country that are carried out without the consent of the Resident City or District Commissioners.

In a statement issued by the presidential Deputy Spokesperson Faruk Kirunda, Museveni said the DSCs which are headed by the RDCs or RCCs must be informed and then agree for any eviction to be conducted.

Addressing the journalists at the Uganda media center in Kampala today, Nabakooba says that she will issue a circular to all RDCs and Chief Administration Officers – CAOs on implementing the directive by ensuring no land eviction takes place especially on unregistered or land with tenants on it.

In regards to Busuulu (ground rent), Minister Nabakooba says that the rent payment will remain basic or normal because the occupant cannot afford economic rent.
