Government has backed President Yoweri Museveni’s statement challenging the court ruling on the Seven year tenure for Members of Parliament and Local government councils.

Yesterday, President Museveni posted on his Facebook page attacking the judges of the Constitutional court for rejecting the 7-year tenure for MPs and Local Government councils.

The Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo says Museveni has a right to express his grievance just like any Ugandan and believes that the statement can’t change the court’s ruling.

Opondo cites the age limit petitioners who appealed in Supreme Court against the judgment and the opposition leaders that have also expressed their grievances over the same issue, saying they also exhibited their rights.

Last week, the five justices; Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo, Remmy Kasule, Cheborion Barishaki, Elizabeth Musoke and Kenneth Kakuru in separate judgments delivered at the Mbale High court quashed the constitutional amendment through which the term of office of the current parliament had been extended from 5 to 7 years.
