The Uganda Police Force is waiting for President Museveni’s decision on the rank that should be decorated to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Men’s 5,000 meter race Gold winner Joshua Cheptegei.

In August this year, Cheptegei clinched the title of men’s 5,000 race with 12 minutes and 58.15 seconds at Tokyo 2020 just after winning a silver medal of men’s 10,000m race in the same competitions.

The Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says that Cheptegei may be promoted from the rank of Inspector of Police (IP) to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above according the decision awaited from President Museveni.

He says that once President Museveni decided on the rank, the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochora will immediately organize a ceremony to decorate Cheptegei and award him with other awards.

The IGP however has promoted the other three officers that participated in the same competitions in Japan and among these is Perusi Chemutai who has been awarded with the rank of the Inspector of Police from the Special Police Constable (SPC).

Both Marceline Chelangat and Immaculate Chemutai have been promoted to the rank of Corporal from Police Constable according to Enanga.
