Mulago specialised hospital needs only five months to start operating once government releases the 36 billion shillings.

Since 2016, government embarked on improving Lower Mulago Hospital which was part of the Mulago National Referral Hospital with the intention of turning it into a Specialized Hospital to offer specialized services.

 

Speaking to the media during the hospital tour , the Executive Director Mulago Specialised Hospital Doctor Baterana Byarugaba noted that the rehabilitation works at the hospital is currently at 91% however part of it had not yet been paid for which includes; window replacements, road networks , theater surgical panels and lights among others.

 

Dr. Byarugaba adds that upon completion, the hospital will provide specialized services including organ transplant of (kidney, cornea, liver, bone marrow, and stem cells) and neuro-spinal surgery among others.

 

However, he says the hospital will require 76 billion shillings as operational funds which also includes recruiting additional expatriates.
