The situation in Sembabule Mawogola North constituency is still tense as security comprising of the Police and the Army are still patrolling the entire area after the NRM primaries.

Acts of violence were reported in Kannunga, Rushese villages and Kizaano polling station in Rugusulu Sub County, Mawogola North Constituency where supporters turned rowdy as they engaged in bitter exchanges that resulted into fighting. The violence was instigated by disagreements between supporters of Shartsi Musherure Kuteesa and Godfrey Aine Kaguta (SODO) over the inclusion of underage voters in the process.

The other incidents were recorded in Kiganda village polling station in Lwebitakuli Sub County in Mawogola West Constituency where the race was between incumbent MP Joseph Ssekabiito and Anifa Kawooya.

Shartis Musherure, the daughter to Foreign Affairs Minister, Sam Kutesa who was competing with Godfrey Aine Kaguta, a brother to President Museveni was won after Kaguta polled 17343 votes against Musherure’s 16104 votes whereas Salim Kisekka got 4274 votes.

However Musherure has rejected the results that she was cheated after establishing that the electoral process was wanting in terms of transparency and fairness and she has since petitioned the NRM electoral commission over the same.

Kutesa’s daughter explained that there are six villages where she got no vote whereas her opponent combed all votes and this, which she says was not possible in a free and fair election.

She cited Kikoma where they got 345 votes but Dr. Tanga Odoi went back and nullified the votes which are all part of her petition.  She however assured her supporters that this is not the end of the journey.

The election which was supposed to be held on September 4, was postponed twice over ugly scenes of violence between supporters of both Godfrey Aine Kaguta and Shartis Kutesa Musherure who are both close to the First family.

Meanwhile Hon. Hanifa Kawooya, who has represented Sembabule in parliament as Woman MP since 2001 also beat Joseph Ssekabiito having polled 15,923 votes (54.8 per cent) against Ssekabiito’s 13,143 votes(45.2 per cent) to hold the party flag for Mawogola West.
