The Local Government Minister, Tom Butime has expressed dissatisfaction upon district chairpersons that he accuses of failing to protect wetlands in the country.

He revealed this while speaking before the District Chairpersons and Mayors of Municipal councils in Kampala saying that the Local Government Act empowers these leaders to protect the environment including wetlands, forests, rivers and lakes among others of which they have neglected and instead left the duty to only the Chief Administrative officer (CAO).

Butime also wondered people’s failure to pay local government revenue especially in rural areas yet it is used to improve service delivery in villages.

He thus appealed to Ugandans especially those in rural areas to stop migrating to urban centers but rather stay there and develop those areas.
