Buganda Kingdom has called for more time to study the documents received from the government’s National Planning Authority (NPA) about extension of the boundaries of Kampala.

During the Buganda Lukiiko, the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga said they are to issue a public statement about the Kingdom’s stand on the proposed extension of Kampala immediately after they full study the plans.

This comes after the Minister for Kampala Betty Kamya and the head of NPA Wilberforce Kisamba Mugerwa revealed plans of extending the administrative boundaries of Kampala to include surrounding districts; Mukono, Wakiso and parts of Mpigi that will be called the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) in the interest of better service delivery to the people.

Mayiga further informed the Lukiiko that a team of delegations from the Kingdom lead by him will be meeting officials from the central government tomorrow to discuss the compensation for Buganda properties that still remains under the government control.

The Kingdom’s Finance Minister Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa says government owes Buganda UGX172 billion.

Last week, Buganda Kingdom representatives met with President Museveni at state house Entebbe where he expressed willingness to fulfill his promise in an understanding made 5 years ago.
