The case in which the politician Dr Kizza Besigye and four others are accused of assaulting a police officer and inciting violence has been adjourned to March 6 because of the absence of the presiding magistrate said to be on leave.

Dr Besigye together with Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party president Patrick Amuriat, Besigye’s driver Fred Kato, Kawempe South Member of Parliament (MP), Mubaraka Munyagwa and FDC secretary for mobilization, Ingrid Turinawe were this morning supposed to appear before a trial magistrate Sanyu Mukasa at Mbarara High court but were cut short of hearing their case because magistrate Mukasa is on her annual leave.

Security was tight and police blocked all roads leading to court and dispersed supporters who had started to buildup.

Prosecution alleges that Dr Besigye, his co-accused and others at large on November 14, 2017 at Amahembegente, Muti Cell in the Mbarara District, assaulted PC Michael Oyet, a police officer who was executing his duty.

Other charges are malicious damage to property and holding unlawful meeting.
