Victims of the Lusanja eviction have petitioned the government to expedite compensation.

In October, businessman Medard Kiconco, who claims ownership of the land, with the help of armed police and court bailiffs violently, evicted the residents from land they have lived on for decades and destroyed their property.

350 homes were demolished without notification and more 240 others.

Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga tabled a motion demanding that the government expedites investigations into the eviction and duly compensates the people involved in the illegal eviction.

However, Lusanja Vice Chairperson Harriet Nakazibwe says that the compensation has delayed despite government officials being aware of the plight of the evicted residents.

She adds that apart from compensation, OPM had pledged to support the victims with relief supplies including food and clean water which has never happened.
