Lugazi diocese has launched her silver jubilee celebrations that will be marked in February 2022.

The celebrations will be under the theme; ‘Let us match on strengthened in the Lord’

The diocese was founded in 1997 together with Kasana Luweero diocese, and now Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev. Matthias Ssekamanya was appointed ordnairy of Lugazi and was succeeded by Rt. Rev. Bishop Christopher Kakooza who was appointed in 2014 following his retirement.

At the diocesan day celebrations today at Lugazi Cathedral Bishop Kakooza first noted with concern the suffering Covid-19 exposed the whole world to leaving all things palarised, lives lost as well as businesses. He was however grateful to the Lord for those who have managed to overcome its effects including the Church ever since churches were re-opened.

Lugazi diocese, during Covid, they have managed to complete a number of projects; two parishes St. Kizito Namasumbi and St. Andrew Kaggwa Mpooma were opened, The Namagunga teachers’ estate project that can accommodate 40 teachers was completed and are almost at the completion stage of the commercial building that will have a medical centre, restaurant, super market and ATM is also almost complete.

This multi-million project has been constructed by funds from Christians and well-wishers in their Empaggi (pillar) program and Lugazi Cathedral foundation.

They are now embarking on the Olutta project in which they are to construct a perimeter fence around the cathedral as a jubilee memoria.

Bishop Kakooza reminded people of three virtues during this lent season, prayer life, hope and love for all peoples, but every person should remain observant and protect him or herself from Covid-19.

All the 27 parish priests and heads of laity pronounced before the Bishop their contribution towards Olutta project in cash and pledges between One to 5 million shs, catechists and secondary school heads and directors and Hon. Patrick Nsanja of Ntenjeru South pledged 46 million shs and Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo 10 million
