The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Betty Amongi has been accused of influence through her office to allocate herself government properties.

The property under contention include land and buildings that formerly belonged to Indians that departed during President Iddi Amin’s regime, like plot 29 Kololo located along Acacia Avenue,Plot 15 in Industrial Area , plot 12 Prince Charles Drive and plot 21 Kyadondo Kibuga Mengo.

 

It is alleged that between January and December 2017 Amongi through her company AMOBET Investments Limited where she owns 60 percent shares and Henry Mubiru who is the Director, repossessed the above property from the Departed Asians Custodian Board yet some of it had been given back to the owners.

 

Last week, Toshak Monubhai Patel, a Ugandan businessman of Indian Origin appeared before the commission and accused Amongi of grabbing his family property located at plot 29 Acacia Avenue Kilolitre hill in Kampala that is currently occupied by Miscommunication Company.

 

He told the commission that the Minister went ahead to issued them a public notice ordering them to vacate the premises within 3 months yet they had repossessed the property thy owned since 1968.

 

The commission accused Amongi for misusing her ministerial post to involve in such acts that are contrary to the leadership code Act.

 

Among is still needed in the committee with documents she used to advance money for refund.
