Police have accepted to vacate the home of the National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi in Magere Wakiso district as directed by court today.

Justice Michael Elubu of The High Court in Kampala this morning ruled that it is illegal for security including the army and police personnel to continue confining Kyagulanyi at his home indefinitely and directed their withdrawal.

justice Elubu noted that there is no evidence of causing violence in protest of the election outcome as stated by the state, adding that if available, Kyagulanyi should be presented before courts of law and charged other than speculating on the same. He therefore ordered government to pay costs to Kyagulanyi .

Now, responding to the same, in a press conference the Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said whereas they have not yet received the ruling, they will abide by the court orders to vacate Kyagulanyi’s home but will keep surveillance to ensure that Kyagulanyi doesn’t break the law.

Enanga maintains that as police they have the mandate to detect and prevent crime that is why they have been keeping at Kyagulanyi’s place but had not stopped him from going around with his work

Enanga however asked Kyagulanyi to abide by the court directive to ensure that he follows the Coronavirus Standard Operating Procedures.
