The Citizens of the Republic of Kenya are today voting their new leaders from the President, Parliamentarians, Senators and County Governors.

The Country’s Electoral body the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC headed by Chairman Wafula Chebukati is managing the hotly contested election with a total of 22,120,458 million registered voters spread across 46,229 polling stations are expected to participate in today’s 9th August general election.

Since the country got independence in 1963, it has had four presidents; Mzee Jomo Kenyatta (1963-1978),  Daniel Arap Moi (1978-2002), Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki (2002-2013), Uhuru Kenyatta (2013 – 2022) and the fifth president of a country with a total population of 55.7million people will be decided within a period of 48 hours from the time when the general election ends today.

The four presidential contestants in the race are; the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto 55, for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Presidential candidate Raila Odinga 77, The Roots party candidate Prof George Wajackoyah and Agano Party Waihiga Mwaure.

Many are pointing at one of the two William Ruto and Raila Odinga to win today’s election to steer the country in the next five year term that is renewal once in respect to the two term constitutional mandate.

Deputy President William Ruto has voted when polls opened at 6am accompanied by his wife Rachel Ruto from the Kosachei Primary School in Turbo Constituency while Odinga has cast his vote at Old Kibera Primary School in Nairobi around 10.30am.

For the Kenyans out of their country are also Voting in the ongoing election exercise. Kenyans living in Uganda converged at the Kenyan High Commission at Acacia Avenue at Kololo in Kampala to cast their votes although some have missed due to laps in their documents which has been blamed to their electoral body whose system has failed to verify them.
