The National Unity Platform- NUP elected Councilors to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) have petitioned parliament requesting for the army to stop interfering with the civilian matters.

Councilors who had petitioned Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, said that since elections the army has on several occasions abducted, killed and imprisoned NUP supporters and the majority are still missing.

Led by the Nakawa Lord councilor John Mary Ssebufu, the councilors said that the Army is now abusing the justice system by charging civilians in court martial contrary to the laws of Uganda.

They have also demanded for unconditional release of all political prisoners arrested before and after elections.

Last week, the Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen. Jeje Odongo told Parliament that many of the alleged missing persons in the country could be in hiding for fear of being arrested in relation to election violence.

Meanwhile, Councilors have also requested for the lifting of curfew hours from the current 9pm to 6am to enable even those working at night to earn a living.

However, Kadaga informed them that parliament has no authority to change the curfew hours apart from the Ministry of Health.
