Government has come on the placing of campaigning posters within Kampala where the authorities have vowed to employ Section 97(4) of the National Environment Management Act 2019, that prohibits littering of the environment.

Benny Bugembe Namugwanya the State Minister for Kampala during a press conference at the Media Center today said that KCCA has observed with concern the continued haphazard placement and display of advertisement in form of fliers, posters, placards and billboards in areas that are not authorized for such purposes as well as uncontrolled noise in the city.

Namugwanya adds that such adverts have been placed at road junctions, roundabouts, pavements, street poles, trees, perimeter walls among others that are gazetted as no go zone areas for posters but politicians have violated it and as a result these materials have visually constrained both motorists and pedestrians hence causing accidents.

Namugwanya has directed that any poster that has been wrongfully placed it should be removed and any Politicians found violating the law will pay a fine of UGX 11 million.
