Kalerwe and a part of Nakawa market called basajjabalaba markets have been closed effective tomorrow by KCCA.

This has been confirmed by the minister for Kampala Betty Amongi during a press briefing at the Uganda media centre this afternoon.

Amongi says the above markets have failed to adhere to the presidential directives especially in maintaining the four meters distance amongst market goers and the vendors recommended to reduce on the chances of contracting the deadly pandemic COVID-19.

Away from failure to comply with the guidelines, basajjaalaba Market in Nakawa is an illegal market therefore advising the leadership to work out an alternative place for the vendors.

Amongi has however said that for the closed markets there is chance to resume work in two days after discussing with the market leaders and officers in charge of enforcing the presidential directive as well as full filling the Standard Operating Procedures. Other markets on the warning list are Busega and Banda
