Kadaga blocks KCCA from implementing Property tax rate in Kawempe

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has stopped Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) from the implementation exercise of the property tax rate in Kawempe division until the tax review process is completed.

The authority is expected to begin implementing the property tax in July 1^st 2019 but Kadaga says KCCA can’t start collecting tax that is disputed by the residents.

In the petitioned read by one of the KCCA Councilors, Ramadan Lukwago in the presence of the Kawempe Division Deputy Mayor Ismail Ntale, they demanded for the reviewing of the rates because the information they want to base on to set the property tax was based on assumption.

Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Latif Ssebaggala Ssengendo noted that the tax should be scrapped off because it is poorly set contrary as the law stipulates.
