The Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ll has turned 66th on April 13, 2021 with the cerebrations held at Mengo Palace.

 

The King usually serves his people the cake by himself but this time round he directed his elder son, Prince Crispin Jjunju and Princess to serve his guests on his behalf.

 

The celebration which attracted just a handful of special guests due to avoidance of crowds that could lead to the spread of Covid-19 has left five individuals and the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga recognized for their distinguished service for the progress of Buganda kingdom and the country at large.

 

Owekitibwa Tofiri Male Okweza, Musician Annet Nandujja, Hajji Ibrahim Muwanga Kibirige alias BMK, Dr. Kenneth Chapman Kigozi and Joseph William Kiwanuka have been rewarded with a “ejjinja eryomuwendo” translate at Precious Stone.

 

Normally the Kabaka’s birthday celebration precedes the Kabaka’s birthday run but this time round it was not done still due to the existence of Covid- 19.

 

Delivering his speech, the Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga reechoed the need for Ugandans to discard conspiracy theories against the Astra-Zeneca vaccine and go to any nearest health center for vaccination.

 

The vice president of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi thanked the almighty for protecting the king and prayed for him for more years.

 

Among other dignitaries who attended the celebrations include the Apostolic Administrator of Kampala Archdiocese Rt. Rev. Paul Ssemogerere, religious leaders, members of the royal family ,the vice president of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi ,ministers from Central and Buganda government, members of parliament among others.

 

This year’s celebrations have been under the theme; “Youths to take a lead in the fight against HIV” a responsibility the UNAIDS appointed the Kabaka for as a good will ambassador with the aim to fight against HIV in Central and East Africa.
