Several Journalists have been arrested as they matched to the Police Headquarters Nagulu to present their petition against the brutal treatment by the police as they execute their duties.

The Journalists organised in two groups, one under Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) led by the UJA president Mr Bashir Kazibwe and the second one of the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association led by the President Mr. Moses Mulondo where arrested as they approached the Police gate at Nagulu.

Several other members of the journalism fraternity were arrested on Jinja Road while marching to police headquarters in Naguru and detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala.

Last week, several journalists who were covering protests at Makerere University were hospitalised after being brutalised by police officers among them is Alex Esagala, a photojournalist with Daily Monitor and Geoffrey Twesigye, a photographer with NTV Uganda.

Another one Lawrence Kitata of Vision Group, was arrested on Friday November 01st 2019 and detained at Makerere University Police Post.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango last week blamed the journalists for distancing themselves from police officers during riots and get caught up in the ensuing fracas.
