Transport has been palarised this afternoon along Balintuma road after police intercepted the leader and supporters of the opposition National Plat Form NUP on their way to Bulange Mengo.

The leader of NUP Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi who was in a self ride led a convoy of his supporters to take their petition to the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayega over the incident on Saturday October 17, 2020 that left the Mbogo clan members who had converged for a thanks giving in appreciation for the distinguished services of their of Kayiira Gajuule as Kabaka’s Speaker of the Bataka cabinet dispersed by police with teargas.

This has happened a few hours after The Inspector General of police Martin Okoth Ochola has today apologized Buganda Kingdom over the disruptions caused during the thanksgiving ceremony of the Mbogo clan at the clan headquarters in Mugulu village, in Singo.

The IGP carried out a thorough review and evaluation of the incident, and acknowledges the operational lapse which led to the use of teargas that spread and impacted on the congregation and the public.

In the massage delivered by the chief Political Commissar AIGP Asan Kasingye, Ochola extended further apologies in addition to the earlier ones made, regarding this regrettable incident to the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga and say officers on duty errored in their operations.

Mayiga accepted the apologies and called for restraint by the security officers while dealing with the public during their operations but also to punish the officers who order the operation.

Later in the afternoon Hon. Kyagulanyi managed to reach Mengo where he read his petition to the Katikiro that showed dissatisfaction for the continued suffocation of decent voices arising due to the desire for better management and good governance.
