The Ministry of Health has pleaded to the Pre- Medical Interns who can afford to apply for deployment in internship training centers of their choice to do so.

This follows an ultimatum of 24 hours given to the Government yesterday by the Pre-Medical Interns, demanding for clear communication about their deployment and their allowances or else they continue with the strike.

The Ministry of Health Senior Spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyona says the Pre-Medical Interns had a Zoom meeting with the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwine accompanied by other officials where they were promised to be reimbursed once the Finance Ministry avails the funds.

Ainebyona says the Ministry of Health is still waiting for communication from its counterpart of Finance on the availability of funds to cater for the allowances of the medical interns.

Meanwhile, Police at Wandegeya arrested three Pre-Medical Interns in connection to participating in unlawful assembly at Kampala.

By press time, the suspects hadn’t been charged but the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire informed Radio Sapientia that they were still advising the Interns against these activities.
