The Ministry of Health has noted that at least 65 health workers have been quarantined at their homes after being exposed to the Ebola Virus Disease.

 

This comes after the death of Dr. Mohammed Ali, a Tanzanian national who has been doing Masters in Surgery at the Kampala International Hospital but had joined the Response Taskforce in Mubende to combat Ebola.

 

The Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng while meeting the health development partners including the World Health Organization -WHO in Kampala said that six (6)other health workers have been isolated with five of them at Fort Portal Regional Hospital and one at Mubende Epicenter undergoing treatment.

 

She says that they are working with Tanzanian government to repatriate the body of Dr. Mohammed in an exercise that may take them two to three days but the body is well kept.

 

As of 1st October the Total number of death stood at 7 including the health workers while the cumulative cases are at 35.

 

Minister Aceng said Government is looking for 18 million US dollars, approximately 65 billion shillings to support the Ebola Virus Disease response for three months and are currently looking at 20 districts on high risk including the four of Mubende, Kagadi, Kyegegwa and Kassanda where cases have already been confirmed.

 

The World Health Organization -WHO Country Representative, Dr. Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam says they are compiling the funds that had been reserved for COVID-19 to add it to other funds to provide it to the Ministry of Health in the fight of Ebola.
