Government has set to black list all horticulture farmers who have failed to embrace the required standards for the international markets.

This has been revealed by the Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja saying they have continued to receive complaints from the European countries condemning the quality standard of the horticulture products from Uganda.

He says they have put in place a national task force comprised of both the private sector and the technical team from the ministry to specifically guide on the development of strategies to ensure that horticulture farmers maintain the current market and also penetrate other international markets.

Minister Ssempijja also emphasized that they are to come up with the electronic certification to all horticulture farmers as one of the means to smoothen the certification process.

Some of the setup standards include, before exporting the horticulture products they must be free from pests, all exporting Horticulture Companies are mandated to register their farmers and the packaging house must be of high standards among others.
