Government is set to launch a livestock experimental station at the National Animal Genetic Resource Centre and Data Bank (NAGRCDB) on July 19th in Entebbe.

 

According to the State Minister for Animal Industry Joy Kabatsi, the move has been undertaken to preserve animals under threat due to changes in production system population pressure, land security, and land scarcity, climate change among others.

Kabatsi emphasized that the gene bank is to preserve animal genetic resources for 12 countries from East African region such as Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, and Djibouti among others.

 

Some of the indigenous cows that have been lost include the Zebu and Ankole cows among others which they want to be reinstated.
