Government has opposed the proposal to ban labour export companies.

The Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze proposed to government to suspend labour export companies and instead set up a public funded labour agency at the gender ministry headed by a commissioner to stop profit-oriented private companies who allegedly sell citizens into slavery.

Nambooze statement followed her post on Facebook last Saturday that Marphie International Recruitment Agency should be banned for hiring 23 Ugandan girls and selling them to the highest bidders in dollars.

Addressing the media in Kampala today, the Minister for Gender Labor and Social Development, Janat Mukwaya said that banning young ladies from being taken to Middle East for domestic jobs will affect government’s effort of reducing unemployment challenges in the country.
