Government and its Germany counterpart have signed an agreement to borrow thirty –five million Euros (35,000,000) for the construction of Masaka –Mbarara power Transmission Line.

The Minister for finance Matia Kassaijja who signed on behalf of the Uganda government said the project is expected to improve the Uganda’s electricity network to allow increase in electricity supply and usage within Uganda and the interconnection between Kenya ,Rwanda and Uganda.

Kasaijja says this will be part of Uganda’s Vision 2040 that puts the target at 80% access to modern energy.

The loan will be paid after 20 years with an interest 1.25%.

He calls upon responsible authorities to utilize the loan effectively.
