The Federal Republic of Germany has donated Euros 100.000 (approx 435 million Shs) worth of Personal Protective Equipment PPEs to 55 Catholic lower level health facilities in the fight against Covid-19

The equipment that includes; gloves, foot and eye protection, hard hats and full body suits extended to most areas at risk of contracting Covid-19  in 8 boarder districts located within the Catholic Dioceses of Arua, Hoima, Kabale, Kotido, Masaka, Mbarara, Moroto and Tororo of Uganda were donated through the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau UCMB.

The PPEs were procured from the Joint Medical Stores the second largest medical supply unit in the country that is jointly owned by the Catholic and the Anglican Churches in Uganda.

The Germany Ambassador to Uganda Matthias Schauer flagged off the truck carrying the equipment at the Uganda Catholic Secretariat Nsambya saying that the first 55 benefiting lower health units have got at least 900 health workers who need protection as they strive to save lives of Ugandans and refugees from the deadly Covid-19 pandemic that is keeping the entire world on tenterhooks.

The Chairman of the Health Commission at the Uganda Episcopal Conference Rt. Rev. Bishop Robert Muhiirwa the ordinary of Fort portal Diocese hailed the Germans for the generosity and re-echoed for more support to cover all the 311 health unites managed by the Catholic Church because they are serving all Ugandans especially those in need and now that churches have re-opened and other places of worship more protection and support are urgently needed against Covid-19.

The Executive Secretary Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau Dr. Sam Orach said now that Uganda has entered Level Four of the Covid-19 pandemic where the infection is no longer just in clusters government health facilities are getting overwhelmed hence the need for support through the private partnership which calls for more financial and material support from the donors community to protect Ugandans.

The function was attended by among others Archbishop of Tororo Emanuel Obbo, Archbishop of Mbarara Lambert Bainomugisha, Bishop of Kabale Callistus Rubaramira and the Secretary General Uganda Episcopal Conference Msgr. John Baptist Kauta.
