Gen. Henry Tumukunde has called upon the independent Electoral Commission (EC) to postpone the 2021 general elections due to fragile situation of Covid-19 in the country.
While addressing the press conference at his offices in kololo today said that although the EC is proposing for scientific methods but there are no way people will distance themselves when it comes to voting as well as grassroots elections yet the pandemic is now in the 3rd stage that is dangerous
Tumukunde adds that instead the EC must call all stakeholders to discuss on the way forward but when it fails they will sit as opposition side to get the next stage.
He has disclosed that given the fact that ministry of health has put measures to overcome the pandemic the country is not ready because even the revised roadmap released by EC has limited time for preparation before the polling date.
Meanwhile Tumukunde has challenged EC’s proposal to campaign on media platforms because many are owned by individuals who even have their parties of attachments.
