The State House Health Monitoring Unit has arrested five staff of Kitagwenda district local government on allegations of corruption.

The officials are Richard Ssebandeke, the Chief Administrative Officer, Expedito Twineomujuni the principal assistant secretary, Andrew Baguma the District Engineer, Mary Ahebwa the Assistant Engineer, and Patrick Kisembo acting Chief Finance Officer.

According to Dr. Warren Namara the head of the Unit, the arrests came after a team that had been conducting assessments in the health department, observed a number of anomalies related to flouting of procurement procedures, false accounting, misappropriation of funds worth over 150 million Shillings among other cases.

Namara revealed that following the public outcry in the district over the poor service delivery in the health department the unit was forced to intervene.

He said that the unit unearthed theft of government health supplies, gross inflation of infrastructural projects meant for renovation, and several other anomalies are under investigation.

Collins Karugaba, the CID attached to the unit said that the officials are currently being detained at Kitagwenda Police Station.

He added that their files are being prepared and will be forwarded to the DPP for guidance.

Ismail Mushemeza, the LCV Chairperson Kitagwenda said that the arrest of the officials especially the CAO has paralyzed district operations.

He wants the police to release the suspects on bond as investigations continue.
