The National Electoral Commission has announced 14th January 2021 as the date for electing of Members of Parliament.

This has been revealed by the EC Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama at their headquarters in Kampala adding that campaigns for mps will begin on November 9th to January 12th 2021 but with express orders for candidates to strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures SOPs against the spread of Covid-19.

Byabakama said that aspirants are allowed to conduct open campaign meetings with a regulated number of 70 persons starting 7am to-6pm on top of other provided media channels and platforms.

Other special interested groups with their designated voting days include older person whose elections will be held on January 17th and18th January together with Persons with Disabilities, National female youth MP elections will be held on January 21 and 22, UPDF representative elections will be conducted on January 29th while regional youth representatives will be elected at the end of February 2021.

Meanwhile Byabakama said that dates for voting presidential aspirants will be announced after their nominations on November 2-3rd 2020 and so far out of 87 spirants who have forms for the presidential seat only 19 have returned forms with other requested requirements that are yet to be verified.

So far only the incumbent Yoweri Museveni’s requirements have been approved.

Other aspirants who have returned their supporter signatures for verification are; National Unity Platform’s Robert Kyagulanyi, Patrick Oboi Amuriat(Forum for Democratic Change), Maj.Gen.Mugisha Muntu(Alliance for National Transformation), Charles Bbaale from Ecological Party of Uganda (EPU) and Lt.Gen. Henry Tumukunde on the independent ticket among other notable ones.

The program released also indicated that City and District Local Government Councils including the Lord Mayor, Mayors, chairpersons and councilors will conduct campaigns between November 9, 2020 and January 18, 2021 and polls conducted on January 20, 2021.

The municipality, city division chairpersons, and councilors will campaign between November 9, 2020 to February 23, 2021, and elections held on February,25 whereas sub county/town/municipal division chairpersons and councilors will campaign between November 9 and February 1, 2021 and elections held on February,3, 2021.
