Government has officially launched a digitalized Postal Services Addressing System dubbed e-Posta that will ease the service delivery and spur business and e-commerce for Ugandans.

Launching the system at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala today, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance Judith Nabakooba noted that the-Posta that gives real time connectivity has been used by Posta Uganda to connect with 49 out of 108 offices across the country.

The system has been designed by young entrepreneurs from the Citizens Technologies (CITZ Technologies) in collaboration with Posta Uganda and the youth who benefited from the Innovation Fund after the Ministry started a competitive process that identifies credible young Ugandans who are given funding to assist them in developing practical Information Technology solutions.

Nabakooba says that each Ugandan at every level will own the e-Postal address at 20,000shs each from the old payments of 80,000 for Post Office Addresses previously called P.O. Box numbers.

In attendance was the Managing Director, Posta Uganda James Arinitwe who said that Posta Uganda has used the System to connect 49 out of 108 of their offices country-wide, thereby enabling quick and reliable exchange of information.

Under Sections 115 and 116 of the Companies Act, it is a requirement for all companies to acquire and declare valid P.O. Box addresses before registration in Uganda.
