The Law Development Centre court has denied bail to two directors of crypto currency company that was behind an alleged crypto currency scam amounting to billions of shillings in Uganda last year.

 

On Wednesday, the court adjourned the matter in which two Directors of Dunamis-coins Resources Limited are charged with 65 counts related to obtaining money by false pretense and later remanded to Luzira prison.

 

These include Samson Lwanga, 37 and Mary Nabunya 53 all residents of Makindye Ssaabagabo in Wakiso District.

 

The accused had applied for bail of which Lwanga presented three sureties and Nabunya two sureties but the bail couldn’t go through after the state attorney requested for an adjournment so as to verify the information presented by sureties.

 

The Senior Grade One Magistrate Roselyn Nsenge granted the request and adjourned the matter to February 13th 2020 however; she has advised the complainants led by their lawyer Arthur Mpeirwe to work together with the Resident State Attorney Jacklein Kainabwisho and the police to consolidate the complainants in the charge sheet.

 

This was after state declared that there are over 2,000 complainants of which the charge sheet only had 65 people confirming that many of the files were still at the police stations.

 

Prosecution alleges that Lwanga and Nabunya between February 14th 2018 and December 3rd 2019 at New Taxi Park in Kampala conspired together to commit a felony of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to the Penal Code Act.

 

With intentions to defraud, they allegedly obtained money ranging from 500,000 shillings to 140 million shillings from dozens of people by falsely pretending that they would invest and return the money whereas not
