The Opposition Democratic Party (DP) has boycotted from attending the Swearing in Ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni that they believe he didn’t win the January 14, 2021 presidential elections.

President Yoweri Museveni will be inaugurated as president for the sixth five-year elective term on May 12 at Kololo Independence grounds before 4000 invited guests from Uganda and abroad.

The DP Party Spokesperson Opio Okoler says though they hadn’t received the invitation card by press time, they wouldn’t attend such a function which they allege that President Museveni and his party the National Resistance Movement (NRM) achieved through unfair election which denied Ugandans their victory to see another president.

Okoler says Museveni’s government has crippled the development of the country through persistent underfunding of priority sectors such as agriculture whose budget for the next Financial Year 2021/20223 has been reduced to 3.77%, a reduction by 59% from the previous budget yet it employs 80% of the total population.

His statement comes as the Minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo was addressing the press with the affirmation of having attained 98% score for Wednesday’s swearing in Ceremony process for President Museveni.

The army and police have maintained deployment in major towns of the country ahead of President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday.

All towns like Masaka, Jinja, Mbale, Hoima, Luwero and West Nile have observed unusual deployment of anti-riot police and Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldiers patrolling the towns in anticipation of possible protests by opposition supporters.
