Court has set January 25th 2021 to give her ruling on a habeas corpus application filed by the lawyers of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, a presidential candidate in last week’s concluded elections.

 

This is after Justice Michael Elubu agreed to take on the case after two judges that is Musa Sekaana and Esta Nambayo declining to do so.

 

The lawyers are led by Medard Lubega Ssegona and still insist just as they filed in their application that the house arrest is illegal and thus their two clients that is Robert Kyagulanyi and his wife Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi should be left to walk free because there is nothing like a preventive arrest in the constitution of Uganda.

 

Early this week, a team of Kyagulanyi lawyers who lost last week’s presidential election after the Electoral Commission declared President Museveni as the winner, filed an application in the High Court in Kampala to secure his freedom.

 

Up to now, Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s home still surrounded by security deployed to restrain his movement as a ‘preventive measure’ following intelligence police received about planned riots and protests countrywide, according to the Police’s spokesperson Fred Enanga.

 

According to the lawyer Antony Wameri, the musician turned politician was starving since security operative include police and the army had denied everyone access to his home since last week.
