Criminal summons have been issued against the Kawempe North Member of Parliament Mohammed Ssegirinya who is facing charges of incitement to violence.

The summons have been issued by Grade one magistrate Buganda road court Sienna Owomugisha after the accused, his surieties plus his lawyer missed court session on Friday.

The matter was adjourned to April 21st 2023 for hearing, however the magistrate noted that she was watching the consistent appearing of prosecution witnesses who continue to come to court while the defense is busy meandering around.

Surprisingly the two surieties for Ssegirinya that is Thomas Bagonza, the Councilor for Wandegeya and Apollo Ariho the Kasangati Town Council Councilor were around the court premises but missed the proceedings because the magistrate opted to have the matter in her chambers not in open court where they were waiting from.

Prosecution alleges that Ssegirinya between August and September 2020 while in Kampala, made statements on his Facebook page “Ssegirinya Muhammad Fans Page ” calculated to incite the public to participate in violence against a section or group of Ugandans.

Ssegirinya together with his counterpart Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West Constituency were on 13th February 2023, released by the Masaka High Court Judge Lawrence Tweyanze after spending 15 months on remand following alleged murder of 20 people in Greater Masaka region in August 2021.
