The State Minister for Minerals Sarah Opendi has highlighted corruption as the major problem affecting the Ministry and the Health sector that needs serious attention.

Opendi who has served in the Ministry of Health for eight years said this while handing over the Ministry of Health In charge of General Duties’ office to her successor Robinah Nabbanja.

Among other challenges affecting the sector, Opendi says they are drug theft in public health centers by the medical workers, absenteeism among doctors as well as low pay in the regional and other health centers.

Opendi further encouraged her successor Nabbanja to ensure that pending bills like Organ Transplant Bill, Health Professional Authority Bill, National Foods and Drug Authority Bill among others are passed into laws to ease the Ministry’s operations.

However, the New State Minister for Health In charge of General Duties Robbinah Nabbanja pledged to collaborate with her ministerial colleagues and technical staff to ensure that such challenges are solved.
