Alliance for Finance Monitoring (ACFIM) has released a report on Unregulated Campaign Spending and Its impact on Electoral Participants in Uganda indicating an estimation of 500million shilling likely to be spent by a contestant for  a Parliamentary seat come 2021 general elections.

The report launched at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya Kampala today shows that politics has turned into wealth and employment for politicians rather than leadership or services to electorate yet 79 percent of the voters believe in being given money by the contestants for votes.

Eddie Kayinda, the Lead Researcher for the report says they discovered that businessmen tend to invest in certain politicians with a view of being favored after the elections in terms of incentives and awarding of deals to them among others.

However, he says that the report recommends for an establishment of the law that could guide and limit campaign spending among the candidates to avoid this trending money transaction for votes between the politicians and the voters.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party President Norbert Mao suggests that the Election Finance law should specifically prohibit those who carry huge sacks of money into campaigns without declaring their sources.
