As Uganda prepares to join the rest of the world in the commemoration of the International Youth Day ((IYD) on August 12th, Youth focused civil society organizations have asked government to enact the Sexual Offences Bill 2015 into law.

In a joint press conference at Katwe playground along Entebbe road, the Uganda Youth Network (UYONET) Communications Officer Saraha Akello says that the delay to enact this law has denied justice to sexual victims who are mostly young people.

The Bill was tabled in 2016 as a Private Members Bill by Kumi Woman Member of Parliament and the then UWOPA Chairpersons, Monicah Amoding seeking to consolidate all laws related to sex offences, and as well spell out clear sanctions against offenders.

However, Akello says that they expect to petition the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga to speed up the processes of enacting the law.
