Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has expressed disappointment in the manner of which Ministry of health has handled the Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever.

Addressing media at Mulago, the General secretary UMA Dr. Mukuzi Muhereza, says it was unprofessional to announce that Uganda is free from the hemorrhagic Crimean Congo fever yet there are some suspects that have been observed with symptoms related to the disease.

He adds that the best way to respond to the epidemic is to get to its reservoir, educate the communities and mainly protect the health workers that are responding to this epidemic.

Muhereza says that some of the symptoms for people suffering from the disease include pain in joints, bleeding, fever among others hence weakening the affected person.

Earlier, a nine-year old child reportedly from Nakaseke district was said to have tested positive for the fever.

However, the Healthy Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Diana Atwine and the State Minister for Health in Charge of General Duties Sarah Opendi refuted these claims saying there was no cause for alarm since no cases had passed due to the Congo- Crimean Fever.
