Uganda cancer institute has revealed that the Cancer burden is rapidly increasing due to growth in cancer causing infection lifestyle changes and smoke exposure, among others.

 

The institute is the only national treatment center for cancer with a bed capacity of 80 but on average they receive 250 patients on a daily basis.

Addressing the media this morning during a Media dialogue at Bless a Child Foundation Bwaise, the programs manager at Uganda Cancer Society Denis Olodi says the number are mostly higher since Mulago is the only government cancel treatment facility on top of the vulnerability of the patients in terms of economic capability.

Olodi said Uganda Cancer Society through Hostel service provided by members have prayed a great role in helping patients through providing accommodation, organizing relief missions to patients, transport to and from cancer institute and charity among others and are looking at a new direction to inform development of National Cancer control plan in Uganda”

Among Hostels in the country include; Kawempe home care, Bless a Child Foundation Bwaise, Cancer Charity Foundation and Patient Relief Mission.
