Cabinet has approved an additional sum of 32 Billion Shillings for emergency relief supplies to the victims of floods, landslides, windstorms, hailstorms and lightening from the Contingency Fund.

Heavy rains that was experienced in Uganda last year, left many lives and property lost mostly in the Northern and Eastern  parts of Uganda include the districts of Mbale, Manafwa, Bukeda, Budadu, Kumi, Soroti, Katakwi, Amuria, Lira, Pader, Kitgum, Nebbi, Gulu and scattered areas of central Uganda.

As a result, a number of key bridges and roads were washed away making transportation a nightmare for commuters, students and humanitarian agencies to deliver relief supplies.

During the media briefing on cabinet decisions from the meeting held on Monday 20th January 2020 at the office of the president in Kampala, Ofwono Opondo, the Government Spokesperson said that I was resolved that the funds be released to help victims of floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Ofwono announced that cabinet noted that the 43rd commemoration of St. Janani Luwum Day will take place on Sunday 16th February 2020 at Mucwini Kitgum District under the theme “Let us not get tired of doing well”
